Hey Jess – I was watching the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards and I didn’t see Mariska there. Do you know if she was there or if not how come?
Jess said on January 14th, 2013
@Stef she wasn’t there. She wasn’t nominated so she didn’t go.

This Mike Tyson thing is getting out of hand . So many young women online really turning against SVU, Warren Leight, the cast and crew of SVU.I honestly don’t know who agreed to hire Mike Tyson, a convicted rapist and batterer of women to portray any role in SVU. Very bad idea- its upsetting a lot of people online, making them argue with each other. There is no excuse for upsetting your loyal viewers, and I hope that the producers scrap this role for him , fire him and move on from this level of disrespect.Just my opinion.

I am going to watch that episode like I watch every other episode,

Even if Mariska thought this was the worst idea ever, the contract would probably prevent her from complaining about it. Someone will have to ask once this season is over and decide whether your respect for her should change based on her response.

I’ve thought of that as well, but if she has a say in this as many are assuming

NBC SVU inviting Mike Tyson to act in a coveted “guest star” role in SVU was a huge error and insensitive to many of its viewers who are victims/survivors of trauma. While Mike Tyson may be rehabilitated and did serve his time, that doesn’t give him a right to be seen in every forum, especially when that forum involves trauma victims. All the reasons why I feel SVU erred and how bad their decision is can be found at: http://bridgettestwittercomments.wordpress.com/ , which I have tweeted to @nbcsvu and @warrenleighttv on Twitter and sent to NBC on its site’s comment box. I will also call NBC. I also previously signed the petition noted in one of the comment boxes above. Unless NBC rescinds their invitation or doesn’t air the show, I will no longer watch NBC or SVU. As for Mariska and the JHF, unfortunately, from comments I have heard and read, this has the potential of adversely affecting some people opinion’s of her and the JHF (right or wrong). By the way, no employer can prevent an employee from expressing theitr opinion to that employer in private – that would be unconstitutional; however, it could prevent her from expressing it publically. Because Mariska has spoken simultaneously in media interviews as both an actress on SVU and founder of the JHF, because SVU and the JHF/Mariska have mentioned each other in the media and on social media, including having Mariska note she is wsaring the Fearlessness pendant on SVU and ME&RO with the proceeds goiing to the JHF, many connect SVU and the JHF/Mariska and will likely somehow hold this against Mariska/the JHF. I have supported the JHF and Mariska and will continue to do so, unless they come out and vocally support Mike Tyson’s role — that will then cause me to stop. However, I do feel the JHF and Mariska have an absolute obligation to survivor viewsrs of SVU to express to NBC the potential adverse impact of its decision to invite Mike Tyson to “guest star” on SVU on some of SVU’s viewers who are and/or were prior trauma victims. Whether they do so or not, we are likely never to know, since it will be done in private…

I’m not okay with a convicted rapist being on a show like SVU because I question their casting choices and how in touch with their viewers this program really is,compared to how they present themselves.Having said that, there is a strong constitution in the US.They as producers of SVU have the right to cast whomever they want to act in their series. Its a democracy and its fought for and won and lost in battles every single day of every year. I agree this is a poor casting choice, simply based on what the show does to empower women and victims in theory.Clearly there is a disconnect between what they say in theory and how they work daily. I feel bad for Mariska Hargitay. This is not just a pet project for her personally, but a cause shes lent her voice and her strong character to for over 10 years.I really hope her supporters can see past this error in judgement and see fit to continue to support JHF even if they choose not to support SVU. Its a tv show, and it will come to an end eventually . The work the JHF does to help victims of sexual assault,DV, Child Abuse is needed everyday. Lets not lose sight of that fact over a casting choice.

Ariala , it is virtually impossible to separate Mariska’s JHF from her role as Det Benson on SVU. Unfortunately, she may see the backlash from rape victims outrage over casting MIke Tyson on SVU.I only hope it won’t last, in terms of the support her fans give her and her worthy foundation. Someone else mentioned she cannot publicly express her disapproval of Mike Tyson’s upcoming role, but truthfully, she no doubt has her own opinion on the matter. She’s in a very tight spot, basically.I feel badly for her in this whole issue.I don’t see why people would bombard her JHF site with negative comments, but they want their voices heard, and their feelings understood. No win situation for anybody at this point. If they complain enough, or stop watching, SVU goes off the air.I hope this whole mess is resolved soon.
Ariala said on January 17th, 2013
I hope it is too! I think it will blow over anyway. Mariska has a lot of true fans.

Mariska’s situation is very delicate. I am convinced that if she were to choose the guests on SVU, she never pick MT. Even disapproving this choice, it can not be manifested publicly. After all she is employed by NBC. I think a bad choice but I will not miss seeing SVU. And it has a positive side in that controversy. Perhaps attract more audience.
